Alan + Avril

I had been spending a lot of time looking at E-bay, Autotrader and other sites at motorhomes, this is when Chris phoned me back from his holiday. He was very straight forward and gave me concise and clear answers to my questions.

I then took time to confer with my friend who is very experienced, both in the motor trade and motorhomes; Chris spoke with him too. After some time for reflection, I decided to go ahead.

Ideally I would have like to inspect the vehicle and done a deal face to face but this was just not possible in terms of distance and time etc.

After arrival, Chris showed us all aspects of the habitation area. There is a lot to take in when you are new to the game. Chris explained it all very thoroughly and in a manner that I found very helpful. So far, so good and I was delighted with the over all condition and state of the vehicle internally.

We then worked through all the aspects of the vehicle’s external facilities and features, including service history and maintenance.

I was both excited and anxious about taking it out on the road, as it did seem big. The Starline 680 is called ‘the flagship’ for good reason. Chris also then dropped into the conversation that he was both an HGV holder and a driving instructor in a previous job.

Could it get any better? was my thought. This helped, as we then went out on the ‘test flight’: Wow! this was going to be fun, was another thought as we got started with me at the wheel. The motorhome drove perfectly as Chris guided me in a very reassuring way. There are mainly small A and B roads in our area and our drive is also very tight. I got back in one piece and with a big smile.

Chris had a train to catch, so we then hurried the paperwork details. Chris had pre-arranged for a free transition insurance for ten days. This was so helpful and the company Caravan Guard have since given the best quote for Insurance. Not the cheapest, certainly the best value with the most cover; including European breakdown which we definitely wanted. This meant we were good to go as soon as the deal was done.

Likewise he dealt with all the DVLA forms and gave us a brand new MOT too. So ALL the paperwork was dealt with in a very smooth and efficient way.

The second last bit, was to hit the pay button online as it was a cash sale. I had also prepared the bank that a larger than normal payment was going ahead.

So we now owned our very own Hymer Starline 680. I couldn’t quite believe it; living the dream and all that.

Finally I dropped Chris at the nearest railway station to catch his train, with one minute to spare.

Over the next fortnight we went on trial expeditions locally and this really helped with learning the ropes. There were a few minor issues that came up such as the step not retracting properly. All this was handled by Chris in an efficient, polite, prompt and fair way.

Aware of many on-line horror stories, I would say the whole ‘buying blind online’ experience with Chris has been an example of good, honest and fair business.

It has been a month since taking delivery and we are delighted with the purchase. The vehicle has been given an inspection by our friend and it is a fantastic vehicle. Entering into the world of motorhomes is akin to buying a second home, both financially and emotionally. I do not throw respect or accolade lightly either; so I would add that Chris has been excellent throughout the whole experience. In terms of aftersales support too, both my wife and I felt it appropriate to acknowledge the experience being a positive one. This testimonial is in a way, a formal thank you to Chris for helping us to own a vehicle that we are planning to take to Portugal and that we have complete confidence in.

Hello Chris

Hope you are well, thank you for all your help and advice on the purchase of our motor home we have just taken it away overnight to get to grips with all aspects of it and all is good

Best wishes Tracie and Barry

Ps sorry for the delay getting back to you as we were waiting for a bit of nice weather to try it out

Hi Chris

The motor home I purchased from you has amazed everyone who has viewed it (family and friends).Your description of the vehicle was accurate and honest as any good trader’s should be and I’ve recommended you to everyone who has asked where I had the motor home from. I took three of my daughters and my grandson away for the weekend last week to try out the motor home and although we didn’t venture far from home base for our first outing, we had a very relaxing weekend and I’m looking forward to the next one. Everything worked great. We had hot water from the tap (cold too), the cooker worked well (there was still gas in the gas bottle), the fridge did as it should (kept the beer cold) and the awning, which was in the back box, was a great extra giving us more space which we managed to fill.

The motor home, as you said is very clean. One friend who was having a look around noticed it still has the protective plastic film on the gold coloured metal trim that goes around the bottom of the cupboards. For a nineteen year old vehicle this came as something of a surprise and not an unpleasant one at that.

Overall I’m very happy with the motor home and the excellent service I received from you. Nothing was too much trouble and even though you said you don’t normally work on Sundays you made yourself available to hand the vehicle over to me as I had been offered a lift down to pick it up but only on that day. (I really like the look of that American jobbie that you’re advertising).

So thank you Chris for a very pleasant, informative buying experience. I shall continue to recommend Motorhome Department to whoever expresses an interest in motor homes to me and when I am ready to upgrade, you will be my first point of call.

Many thanks.

Hi Chris,

Thanks for the receipt.

Just to say we much appreciated you picking me and my son up from the train station and taking us to your depot to view the motor home which we bought. It’s a very nice van and we have been out in it a couple of times now with no problems. It drives fantastically. Thank you for such good service and your honesty. All the best in the future.

Buying our motorhome through Motorhome Department, was a breeze.  Chris showed us around it and it was exactly as he described it.  We have been away in it already and can’t thank Chris and his team enough.
